Walking/Running Routes from The Chrysalis Inn

#1 Waterfront Route

Taylor Street Dock, Boulevard Park and South Bay Trail.
-From The Chrysalis Inn’s front door turn right and go to Taylor Street Dock just south of Inn.
-Walk down the dock and proceed north, crossing Pattle Point before heading straight onto wood boardwalk to Boulevard Park.
-From here you have two choices-
1. Loop around park before heading back on same route to The Chrysalis. Distance – 1.6 miles
2. At north end of Boulevard Park you can cross railroad tracks and continue up South
Bay trail for 1 mile. Trail ends in downtown Bellingham. Return back on same route to The Chrysalis Inn.
Distance – 3.6 miles

#2 Fairhaven Working Waterfront/Marine Park Route


-From The Chrysalis Inn’s front door turn right onto 10th St. traveling on road and continuing as road turns into trail.
-On corner of 10th and Mill, trail turns to street. Continue on 10th St. one block and turn right on Harris.
-Proceed down Harris, cross railroad tracks and turn right at entrance to Alaska Ferry Terminal. Loop around terminal before proceeding back to entrance.
-Cross Harris Avenue and enter Marine Park (just to your right). Follow driveway into park and loop around before returning to park entrance on Harris.
-Continue back up Harris, turn left on 10th and return to The Chrysalis Inn. Distance -2 miles
If you wish to add a little distance and a wooded trail section, instead of returning up Harris:
-After exciting Marine Park, continue back up Harris (east), again crossing railroad tracks and make next right onto 4th.
-Proceed up 4th St. approx 100 yards and turn left onto trail. Trail will be marked by wood post with yellow stripe around top.
-Remain on trail .8 mile (You will cross 6th Street). Trail is flat initially, then gently rolling before final uphill.
-You will encounter another trail marker at clearing at intersection of 10th and Donovan. Turn left to get back on 10th Street. Follow 10th St. back through Fairhaven to The Chrysalis Inn. Distance -2.6 miles

#3 Interurban Trail 

Experience diversity in nature - wetlands, the canopy of evergreens and further down the trail views of Puget Sound and the San Juans as the trail follows above Chuckanut Drive
-From The Chrysalis Inn’s front door turn right onto 10th St. and follow 10th (road, then trail, then road) into Fairhaven.
-Cross Harris Ave. and continue on 10th until you arrive at gravel trail on corner of 10th and Donovan.
-Follow trail markers directing you toward Interurban Trail. Proceed east into woods, initially going down steep, short hill. Stay on main trail, passing Fairhaven Park on the right. Trail comes out on sidewalk for two blocks before turning back to gravel trail. Stay on trail to Old Samish Hwy.
-Return to Inn by the same route. Distance – 4.4 miles.
-If you wish to go longer, from Old Samish Hwy. continue to follow trail markers through Arroyo Park to California St. where you will again meet up with Interurban Trail.
-Continue on Interurban Trail all the way to Larrabee State Park. Distance: From The Chrysalis Inn to Larrabee State Park and back is 14.6 miles.
